SKIN / WOOL: DENSITY, LENGTH and NOURISHMENT
Silky soft lustrous fleece with little to no medulation. Staple length of 200 mm+ (moving towards shearing twice yearly). Usable adult fleece weights of 5 kg+. High Secondary to Primary follicle ratio. Skin density levels over 60 follicles per mm2. Long thin matchstick sized staples, rich with fluid nourishment and exhibiting deep bold crimp. Micron less than 25 on fifth fleece and no micron blowout when run on improved pastures.
FRAME: SQUARE BODIED and STRUCTURALLY SOUND
A moderate sized frame, (Adult body weights 60 - 70 kg), and excellent conformation is required to support and maintain higher fleece weights. Good growth rate, cria to reach 30 kg by 4 months and 50kg by 12 months. Strong boned and deep chested. Hardy- suitable for a wide range of climatic conditions. Clean faced.
FECUNDITY: UNCOMPLICATED BREEDERS and EARLY MATURING
Females ready to join at 12 months. Males ready to work at 20 months. Males to have a well descended scrotum with a scrotal circumference of 4 cm+. Females receptive 21 days after giving birth. Superior mothering ability with a high yield of good quality milk.
TEMPERAMENT: MAXIMISE FECUNDITY and PRODUCTIVITY
Quiet, gentle temperaments. Calm animals are easier to shear and handle. Alpacas with nervous temperaments can be less fertile and less productive.
